Skill: Fractions | No. of Players: 2+ | Set-up: Average

This game has students move around the classroom as they try and find different representations of the same fractions.

Materials

  • Fraction Cards**

How to Play:

  1. Give each student a fraction card.

  2. Students walk around the classroom looking for classmates that have the other representations of the same fraction.

  3. Once students all located all iterations, have the group work together to explain how they knew they all represented the same fraction.

Variation:

  1. If you are playing with a smaller group, divide the deck of fraction cards among the group equally so students have a smaller set to look from. Choose a student to one card and then have all students work together, by searching their decks to find the other representations of the chosen card. Do this until all the cards have been matched.

**I recommend using a fraction card sort & match activity such as the "Fraction Card Sort & Match - Combined Representations - Cute & Paste" by No Drama Koala that has with multiple representations for students to observe the many ways fractions can be represented.
